Chaldean American Chamber, National Business League issue joint statement urging ‘candid and respectful dialogue’

Martin Manna, president/CEO of the Chaldean American Chamber of Commerce, and Ken L. Harris, president/CEO of the National Business League, released a joint statement Friday.

The Chaldean American Chamber of Commerce and the Detroit-based National Business League on Friday posted a joint message on Facebook, calling on the communities they represent to temper emotion and exercise restraint and decorum in social media postings.

The joint statement, also posted on the Chaldean American Chamber’s website, follows heated exchanges between the Chaldean and African-American communities in recent weeks after Facebook posts by Michigan Senate staffer LaMar Lemmons, a former member of the state House of Representatives, and Detroit Charter Commissioner Joanna Underwood. Lemmons currently serves as chief of staff for state Sen. Betty Jean Alexander, D-Detroit.
